Robert Theodore “Ted” Dalton, 84, of Rapid City, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on March 17, 2015 at his son Timothy’s home in Royal Palm Beach, Florida. He was born on August 18, 1930 in Mancelona, the son of the late Charles Everett and Isa Dell (Tipton) Dalton.Ted married Barbara Ann Burchard, the love of his life, on January 25, 1952 in Mancelona. They were married 60 years when she passed on March 14, 2012. In 1954, they moved and made their home in Rapid City where together they raised 5 wonderful children. Ted lived a life of service. As a Marine, he served his country during the Korean War. Later, he served his community as a School Board and Zoning Board member. Ted served his Lord as a long time Sunday school teacher and Deacon at the Calvary Baptist Church in Kalkaska.With his longtime partner “Zeke” Henderson, Ted ran Clearwater Construction. As a master craftsman, Ted built hundreds of beautiful homes with great attention to detail. Zeke and Ted each had four sons that were able to pay for their college education while working for Clearwater Construction.Ted’s life was the definition of integrity. He was loved and respected by those that knew him.Ted enjoyed watching his children play sports. Despite having five children all actively involved he and Barb never missed a game. Ted and Barb loved fishing trips to Canada and going to antique shows where they accumulated an impressive collection of Harker Pottery dishes and Blenko glass fish. He enjoyed Westerns and on TV, watching the Detroit Tigers, reading his Bible and Louis L'Amour books, and his two trips out West with Lainey and Larry. Above all Ted loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His unconditional love and his constant devotion to his family was the center of his life. Ted adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and they adored him. It was magical.The most defining part of his life was taking care of his beloved “Barbie Doll” for over 10 years while she could not take care of herself. He cared for her with supreme love and sacrifice and never complained.Surviving Ted are his children, David B. (Kelly) Dalton of Rapid City, Timothy E. (Lynne) Dalton of Royal Palm Beach, FL, Ann Marie (Wesley) Rowe of Cedarville, OH, Russell W. (Lisa) Dalton of Willow Park, TX and daughter-in-law, Re’nee Dalton of Royal Oak; 21 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren; his brother, William H. (Mable) Dalton; and his sister Betty E. (Larry) Pressey.Ted was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; and son Robert Theodore “Bob” Dalton, Jr.; grandsons, Derek Dalton and Benjamin Dalton; his sister, Dorothy (Renie) Barber; and brother, Thomas Russell Dalton.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 28th at 11:00 am at the Calvary Baptist Church.
