Kay Elliott

Kay M. Elliott, age 91, passed away on October 8, 2023. Kay was born on October 15, 1931, in Muskegon, Michigan, the eldest of five children born to Herbert and Margery Meiner. When she was 15 years old, she left home to become a nanny and finish High School. After graduating from North Muskegon High School in 1949, she worked as a secretary at Sealed Power in Muskegon. As an adult she made her family proud by graduating from Western Michigan University and completing her Bachelor of Science in December of 1971. She worked as a teacher for Fruitport Public Schools, Mona Shores Public Schools and Muskegon Public Schools where she was a 3rd grade teacher at Marquette Elementary School. She was an excellent teacher who loved her job and her students! As a young mother, Kay spent time with her children as a Sunday School Teacher, Cub Scout Leader, and Girl Scout Troop Volunteer. She was a talented seamstress, and when her children were young, she often made them matching clothing. She had an adventurous spirit and was always excited to try new things. When trying any new food, drink, activity, technology, route, or anything else, she could often be heard saying 'It's an adventure.' After retirement, she enjoyed staying active by participating in Line Dancing, Tai Chi, Fan Dance, and her walking group. Kay was also a prodigious reader and loved attending book club. In 2019, Kay moved to an assisted living center in Kalkaska, MI. She enjoyed living there and residents, workers and visitors would often see her beautiful smile as she walked up and down the halls exercising. Kay is survived by her son, Thomas Stanley (Connie) Elliott of Gaylord, MI; two daughters: Elizabeth Kay (Stanley) Dombrowski of Kalkaska, MI, Susan Marie Mosley of Muskegon, MI; six grandchildren: Lindsay (Matthew)Thompson, Eric Neelly, Steven Elliott, Erin (John) Roberts, Samantha (Justin) Dowling, and Kennady (Brandon) Mosley; three great-grandchildren: William Roberts, and Ronan and Brooks Thompson; Herbert B. Meiner. Kay was proceeded in death by her parents Herbert and Margaery Meiner, sister Myrna Nic, and twin brothers, Richard and Daniel Meiner. Kay was a much-loved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family.
