Irma Josephine Clous

Irma Josephine Clous, 95 of Traverse City, and formerly of Buckley, passed away at Traverse Victorian Senior Living on Oct. 7, 2015 with her loving family at her side. She was born on May 23, 1920 in Mayfield, Twp., to Theodore and Margaret (Hendges) Worm in Kingsley. Irma married Raymond C. Clous on Feb. 11, 1941 at St. Mary’s Church in Hannah. They lived all of their married lives at Buckley, where they raised their family and farmed many acres, operated Clous Fertilizer and worked at Smeltzers Orchards in Bear Lake. In their later years, they wintered in Kissimmee, Florida where they made many wonderful friends. She enjoyed doing cross-stitching, embroidery, sewing, quilting, crossword puzzles, golfing, playing cards, spending time with her family, and working on their old tractors. Irma was a member of the Northwest Michigan Engine and Thresher Club. It was not unusual to find her in the tool shed working on an old tractor, lawn mowers or bicycles. Irma was also a very good baker, her pies, cakes and bread were better than bakery goods. Her family always enjoyed her canned and preserved foods. She was an excellent golfer always shooting par or below par scores. Surviving Irma is her children, Gerald, David (Rosalie), Arthur, Mavis Clous, Larry (Janice), Susan (Patrick) Buchan; 28 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.Irma was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Raymond Clous; her parents, Theodore and Margaret (Hendges) Worm; brother, Alfred (Pauline); sisters, Marcella (Edward) Zenner and Eleanor (Armand) Schmuckal; daughters-in-law, Carol (Hudson) Clous and Barbara (Forrester) Clous; and her favorite aunt, Josephine Umlor.Visitation and rosary will be held at St. Mary’s of Hannah Church on Thursday, Oct. 15th from 5:00 pm–8:00 pm. A mass of Christian burial will be on Friday, Oct 16th at 11:00 am at the church with additional visitation one hour prior to the service. Fr. Gerald Okoli will be officiating.
