Barrie L. Brothers Cross, of Kalkaska, went home to the Lord’s Garden to sing with the Angels on December 10, 2013 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City following a sudden illness. She was born on January 5, 1943 to the late Burr and Barbara Brothers who were life long residents of Kalkaska along with Barrie.Barrie graduated from Kalkaska High School, went on to Northwestern MI College and became a legal secretary. She married Ronald Cross in 1963 and was married many years before he proceeded her in death. Together Ron and Barrie built and managed Twin Birch Golf Course in the 1970's. Barrie enjoyed the course and the guests who shared her love of the game.Barrie is survived by her sister, Bonnie Brothers, of Traverse City; her nieces and nephews, Jennifer Griffis of North Carolina, Bradley Ward of Wyoming, Gary and Sarah Walter of Traverse City, Mike and Mary Walter of Texas, Lars and Judy Ritola of Traverse City, Dorothy Nelson, Carla Sieting, and Robin Smith all of Kalkaska, Annie and Jeff Mitchell; her great nieces and great nephews, Cassie, Chelsea, Caitlyn and Cameron Griffis, Noah Ward, Nick and Nolan Mitchell; her sister-in-law, Sharon Cross of Rapid City; her aunt’s and cousin’s, Alice Babcock and family, of Kalkaska, Phyllis Brothers, Bub and Ruth Colsell, Billy Brothers and families, all of California, and Marcie Brothers Buxton, Kathy Jo Brothers, Rosemary Brothers and families all of Minnesota; and adopted family, Carl and Tammy Sandel and sons, Aaron and Jarred; Don Sudau, who Barrie appreciated his kind and faithful help. Barrie has been blessed with many lifelong friends, she was a kind, sweet, and generous person who we all loved and who will be terribly missed.Barrie was a gifted and talented lady who loved her home and family. She loved arts and crafts, her dolls and garden. Bonnie’s kitty, Sid, loved Barrie and sat on her lap at every opportunity.Barrie was proud of her community, was a very special friend to many and a dear and precious sister and devoted family member. She had a strong relationship with her Lord. We are grateful that she is home with her family and friends who have gone before her. We can just picture this wonderful reunion in the Lord’s garden. We will plan a special celebration of her life in the spring.
