W. C. Dow, 73, of Kalkaska, returned peacefully to the Lord on April 24, 2022, at his home. Per his wishes, the rite of cremation will be accorded. There will be no services at this time. His remains will rest at the beautiful Black Hawk State Park in Rock Island, IL where he enjoyed so much time with family and friends. Walter Carson Dow was born August 21, 1948, in Richmond, IN. He married his wife, Melodie of forty years, on April 16, 1982. He was a sales mangler at Herman’s and a salesman for Dubois Chemicals before returning to college to obtain a masters’ degree in education. He was a substitute and math teacher in Illinois for a time, before he began his nineteen-year career for the Davenport Community School District (DCSD). During his time with DCSD he taught special education, language arts, and math. When Walter retired and moved to Kalkaska he continued teaching as a substitute for Kalkaska and Mancelona, as well as teaching Sunday school at Calvary Baptist. Walter was extremely proud of his time on the board for the Kalkaska Commission on Aging. Walter was an avid reader. He loved learning and sharing his knowledge with others. He enjoyed bargain shopping for the best deals. He also loved sports and yelling at the television when players missed shots or touchdowns. Walter was an all-around awesome, intelligent, and humorous man. He was preceded in death by father, Earl, mother, Betty, stepmother, Rose, his sisters, Matrice, and Sally, a daughter Jennifer. His memory will be treasured always by his loving wife Melodie, his children Andrea, Andrew, and Betsy, and his grandchildren Aria, Devin, Kyle, and Neamhain, brother Lloyd.
