Vivian Beryldean Zundel, 97, of Manistee Lake, Kalkaska, passed away peacefully Friday, February 28, 2014 at Eden Center in Kalkaska where she had been a resident almost 7 years.Vivian was born to Joseph and Ethel (Soper) Hansen on April 11, 1916 in Grand Rapids and grew up in Detroit. Upon graduation from Southwestern High School in 1934 she worked in the business industry.Vivian married Edward Zundel in 1935, devoting their lives to their children Sharon Lynn (John Eichstadt) and Gary Lee (Gloria). Over their lifetime they were known for their selfless commitment to family and community in opening their hearts and home to those in need of shelter and care.In 1963, Viv and Ed retried “up north” to the home they built on Manistee Lake. Known for her extraordinary skills as both a seamstress and crafter, Vivian took great pride in helping Sharon create unique gifts for the Dunce Cap. Apart from her love of homemaking, fishing, gardening, and card playing, Vivian was a tireless volunteer who presided of CETA activities, especially pasty making. She will be deeply missed.Vivian was preceded in death by her husband Edward; parents Joseph and Ethel; beloved children Sharon and Gary; brothers Jack and Warren Dale; and sister Blanche.She is survived by her daughter-in-law Gloria; grandchildren Michele, Kelly, Sharon, and Patrick; great-grandchildren Robby, Patrick, Emily, Dylan, Erin, and Lauren; sisters-in-law Betty Smith and Marjorie Johnson; and many nieces and nephews whose lives she touched with great generosity and love.The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Eden Center Nursing Home and Memory Care for their compassionate care of Vivian.A graveside service is planned for Monday, May 12, 2014 at 11:0 a.m. at Coldsprings Twp.
