Roger Wayne McDaniel, age 81 of Kalkaska, Michigan passed away on Friday, May 13, 2022. He fought a strong battle with cancer. He was born to the late, Dale and Etta (Riplow) McDaniel on April 13, 1941, in Fife Lake Township, Michigan. Roger was in the United States Marine Corps, and honorably discharged in 1963. He married Ethel Mae Uithol on April 21, 1962, Manton, Michigan. They have been married for 60 years. Roger was an avid gardener; he had a green thumb. He had many eye-catching flower beds. Roger also enjoyed spending time sitting by the water pond that he designed and dug one shovel at a time. He was very artistic and loved painting. He created his model train layout and would spend many hours conducting the trains and adjusting as needed. Roger was very well known for his sense of humor. Roger is survived by his loving wife, Ethel Mae McDaniel; his children, Shawn (Becky) McDaniel, and Kris (Paul) Flohr; six grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. A private family graveside service will be held at Excelsior Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
