Marilyn “Mitzi” Schneider, 85, born on January 3, 1937, to the late Olive V. (Seaburg) and late Ralph Fletcher Longcore: passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Traverse City, Michigan. Marilyn graduated Traverse City Senior High in 1954. After raising her five children she attended Northern Michigan University in Marquette, MI and Suomi College in Hancock, MI: earning a degree in criminal justice from the latter. Marilyn met and married Robert Schneider while attending school in the Upper Peninsula and the couple traveled extensively across the U.S. before settling at their home in Colorado Springs, Colorado. During these travels Marilyn, a gifted artist since youth, developed an ardent interest in nature and the culture of the indigenous peoples of the US Southwest, which were portrayed in her artistic endeavors and collections. Many a hiker has used one of her beautifully painted walking sticks adorned with colorful feathers and totems. An avid hiker herself, Pikes Peak was one of her favorite challenges. Over the years Marilyn developed a passionate interest in 19th and 20th century dinnerware, glassware and art pottery produced by some of the most skilled artisans across the country. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents Olive V. (Seaburg) and Ralph Fletcher Longcore, brothers James Longcore and Robert Longcore. Marilyn is survived by her husband Robert Leon Schneider; her sons James (Tari) Kibby, Timothy (Vicki) Kibby; daughters Mary (Mike) Ryan, Kerry Kibby and Christine (David) Ruszel; step children Bob (Trudy) Schneider, Mike Schneider, John (Karen) Schneider, Jim (Karen) Schneider and Lisa (Scott) Swanson; brother Gary (Ellen) Longcore, sisters Lorraine (Richard) Hominga, Barbara (Jay) Grosmark and Sally (David) Viscochil; sisters in law Merriam (James) Longcore and Diane (Robert) Longcore; her 31 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. A celebration of life memorial date yet to be announced. Those wishing to express their sympathy may consider a donation to the Olive V.
