June 21, 1936 - April 5, 2014
On March 31, 2014, Douglas Adelbert Weisler, 77, of Central Lake, quietly returned to his loving Heavenly Father, while surrounded by loved ones and buoyed by the prayers of loving family and friends. Like most hard-working Americans, Douglas was a man of faith, conscience and duty. Observers might say he lived an unremarkable life. And perhaps when viewed from the perspectives of popular culture, transitory fame, or ostentatious wealth, his life was unremarkable. But from the perspectives of family, community and service, Douglas embodied a steadfast dedication to values and principles that helped anchor and inspire those who knew him. With his acts of quiet kindness, his tireless service, and his ethic for hard work, Douglas uplifted and encouraged all around him. His great legacy, perhaps the greatest any person can have, is that with his wife of over 50 years, he raised his sons in righteousness, teaching them by word and deed the true value and purpose of life. A legacy which they continue. Douglas was a husband, a father, a brother, a grandfather, a soldier, a pilot, a farmer, a laborer, a manager, a community leader, a clergyman and a friend. He was our hero. We miss him. But we move forward, as he did, in faith, looking forward to that bright day when we are reunited in eternity. Douglas is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Wanda; his loving sons, Gregory A. (Laurie) Weisler of Springville, UT, Kirk (Rebecca) Weisler of Fayetteville, GA, and Daniel (Jemma) Weisler of Aurora, IL; his 15 cherished grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; and his dear siblings, Georgiena (Dean) Smith, Glenda Gilbert, Pierce “Pete” Weisler, Crayton (Sharon) Weisler, and Winnie (Gene) Marion. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jeness “Jo” Montoya who passed away in 2012. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. at the Pleasant Valley Free Methodist Church in East Jordan with Gregory A. Weisler officiating. Visitation will be held the hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Dunsmore Cemetery in Echo Township when weather permits.
