Aloysius J. Urbin, of Kalkaska, went home to the Lord on June 10, 2015 at the age of 96. He was born on September 3, 1918 in Detroit to the late Adolph and Martha (Hoga) Urbin.Aloysius married Malvina Paternoster on August 2, 1941 in East Detroit. He served his country proudly as member of the United States Army during WWII. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and received a Purple Heart among other medals.Aloysius retired from the East Detroit Police Department after 27 years of dedicated service. Upon retiring, he moved to Kalkaska where he was custodian at the Old City Hall and the Health Center.He was a member of the Police Officers Association, the Knights of Columbus of East Detroit, the Woodcarvers Association in Alden, St. Mary of the Woods’ Catholic Church, and VFW Post 8684 of Kalkaska.Aloysius will always be known for cooking his famous peanut brittle and lemon pies. He enjoyed art, woodcarving and sculpturing, but his greatest loves were his wife and children. He is survived by his loving children, Pat Stanton, Tom (Gayle) Urbin, and Mark Urbin; grandchildren Matt, Mike (Julie), Ryan, and Travis; great-grandson little Colin; 6 step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who all knew him affectionately as Uncle Babe.Aloysius was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Malvina; and his siblings, Mary, Robert, Jeanette, and Thomas.Visitation for Aloysius will be Saturday, June 20, 2015 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church. Funeral services will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Norman Dickson, S.J. officiating.
