Shawn Ann Miller-Haynes, of Kalkaska, Michigan, died July 13, 2014 after a yearlong battle with cancer. Shawn was born November 18, 1960 in Carson City, Michigan to Margaret (Hetherington) Miller and the late Donald Miller.Shawn graduated from Shepherd High in 1978. Shortly after graduation she began a career in the Auto Industry. As a result of her outstanding work ethic and love for her job she received several managerial promotions and earned multiple job related certifications. Her 20 year career was mainly spent in the Pontiac, Michigan area. After retiring she moved to Kalkaska where she enjoyed working as a bookkeeper along side her sister Sharon. It wasn’t only a job for Shawn, it was greatly cherished sister time.Shawn had a real love for life; she was never without a smile. She welcomed everyone and judged no one. She saw the best in people when no one else could. Many will remember her whenever they see a penguin – no one will forget her penguin tattoos or her collection of penguin memorabilia. Everyone that knew her knew the love she had for her dog Pupper Ann; she was more like a child than a dog to Shawn. The children in Shawn’s family were blessed with her love and held a special place in her heart; Alexis, Gracie, Madison, Raven, and Ethan will forever remember her as the kissy monster.Shawn loved to be on the move, and it showed in her many travels throughout the U.S. She enjoyed motorcycle rides with her husband Dennis in addition to boating and family camping trips. She was a true Lions fan, always looking forward to Sunday games. Her many hobbies included: gardening, reading, photography and quilting. During the last year Shawn was proud to make many quilts for her friends and family, and it gave her great joy.Shawn was preceded in death by her father, Donald Miller; her nephew, Matthew Miller; and her niece, Adriane Sieting.Shawn is survived by her husband, Dennis Haynes; her son, Sam (Beth) Lockey; step-daughter, Denise (Brian) Mclain; her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Cheyenne, Ariel, Gracie and Raven; her great grandson, Corbin; her mother, Margaret Miller; her siblings, Deb (Jack) Bailey, Sharon (Walt) Sieting, Pat (Kevin) Burch, Jack (Laura) Miller and Ron Miller; many nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews.A graveside memorial service will be held on July 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Evergreen Cemetery in Kalkaska, Michigan.
