Sandra Jean Stokes-Walker, 77, of Traverse City, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, May 2, 2017. She was born on April 16, 1940 in Ecorse, MI; the daughter of the late Raymond and Myrtle (Conner) Stokes. Long time resident of Monroe, MI. She graduated in June, 1958 from Allen Park High School. She earned an Associate of Science degree in 1978 from Monroe County Community College.Sandy married the love of her life James R. Walker Sr. on May 16, 1958. They became parents of five wonderful children. She was a volunteer at Karmanos Cancer Center, Hospice, and Helpline Crisis Center. She worked as a caregiver at Lewis Home, Temperance, MI., JFK and MI House and Salvation Army Harbor Light Alcohol Center of Monroe County. Lovingly volunteering as a Tawanka Camp Fire Leader and receptionist. Sandra moved to Traverse City in July of 2009 to be near her family. Survivors include her children, James R. Walker, Jr, of Stuart, FL, Debra J. (Todd) McLean of Williamsburg, Susan R. Walker-Hammac and Karen M. Walker both of Traverse City; her two precious grandchildren, Krystle R. Hammac and Tanner G. McLean; siblings, David (Lynda) Stokes of Sterling, Alaska and Linda (Tom) Parsons of Stuart, Florida; one niece and six nephews. She loved serving her Lord and attended Harbor Light Christian Church. Sandra was proceeded in death by her beloved husband James in 1975, her son, Robert R. Walker in 1990; and brother John R. Gilchrist in 1989.There will be a celebration of Sandra’s life on Saturday, May 6 at 3:00 pm. Visitation starting one hour prior to service at the Harbor Light Christian Center, 4050 Barnes Rd., Traverse City, MI 49684. Cremation has taken place and she will be interned with her husband at Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery in Flat Rock, MI. A graveside service will be held at a later date.
