David M. Hawkins, formerly of Torch Lake, passed away quickly and peacefully after a long illness Wednesday, September 18, 2024. He was born July 15, 1938, the son of Lorne and Hazel (Calbeck) Hawkins. He attended Madison Heights High School and eventually completed his GED. He enlisted and served his country in the United States Air Force from 1957-1961. David married his beloved wife Patty Lynell Briggs on March 14, 1959. He was both a police officer and fireman for the City of Bloomfield Hills for ten years. During that time, he also had a carpet business. In 1975, he purchased the Kal-Ho Lounge which he owned and operated for 28 years. During his lifetime, he personally built the first family home in Clarkston and built the last family home on Torch Lake. David enjoyed his life balancing between work, home projects, fun, and family time. He always had a zest for life, loved a good adventure, traveling, and was always the life of the party. He loved the great outdoors and enjoyed motorcycling, boating, and snowmobiling. David had a smile that could brighten any room and shall be missed by many. He loved his family unconditionally until his last breath. He is survived by his beloved children Donald (Dana) Hawkins of Texas, Heather (James) Osterland of Shelby Twp.; loving grandchildren Jennifer (Nick) Rodriguez, Justin (Erika) Hawkins, Joshua (Zoe) Hawkins, Carson (Kristen) Lund, Connor Lund, Ashley Webber, Addison Webber; and eight great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2024, from 2:00pm - 6:00pm with the Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday at 12noon all at Muir Funeral Home Celebration of Life Center, (296 S. Main, Romeo, MI 48065.) A visitation will be held at Wolfe-O’Neill Funeral Home (106 South Cherry Street, Kalkaska, MI 49646) on Friday, September 27, 2024, from 4:00pm until 8:00pm. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 11:00am at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
