Carolyn June Cross was born on October 8, 1930, in Portland, Michigan and passed away on Friday, July 26, 2024, at South Torch Assisted Living in Rapid City, Michigan. Carolyn was the secretary of the Portland Public Schools for 20 years and a member of the Eastern Star in Portland, Michigan. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Portland, Michigan for many years. After moving to Kewadin to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Don, she became a member of the First Presbyterian church in Elk Rapids, Michigan where Sandy and Don have been members since 1995. Carolyn loved playing cards, marbles, and was an active bridge card player most of her life. While residing six months in Portland and six months in Florida, she was busy with many activities and loved teaching water aerobics. She enjoyed baking cookies and sharing them with neighbors and friends. She had an amazing love for her family and was always helping others. She loved music, especially the gospel hymns, and she loved entertaining as well as visiting with people. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Muriel Smith, her husbands, Richard Smith and Clare Cross; and her son, Michael Smith. She is survived by her daughter, and son-in-law Sandy (Smith) and Don Davids; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda (Behnke) and Rick Womer; eight cherished grandchildren, Chad and Heather (Soule) Davids; Chris Davids and Rachael Birgy; Nicole (Behnke) Kellan; Brooke (Behnke) Zoumbaris; Audrey (Behnke) and Szymon Luczak; Kyle and Mel Smith; Arianna (Smith) Vaughn, and Scott and Kerstin Smith; her 17 great grandchildren; Cole, Ryan, and Kingston Davids; Beck, London and Esme Birgy; McKenna, Myla, and Alexa Davids; Dillon Vaughn and Jameson Smith; Finn and Kian Kellan; Alex, Ben, Charlie and Emma Luczak. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at the First Presbyterian Church of Elk Rapids. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. and services will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a luncheon.
