Alan Anthony Ellsworth, age 77 of Traverse City, Michigan, died in his home on June 22, 2024. He was born on October 14, 1946, in Hemet, California, to Evan Seymour Ellsworth and Isabel Eyring. Alan married his sweetheart Pamela (Lutz) on February 28, 1972, in Provo, Utah, while attending Brigham Young University. Together, they were blessed with eight children and many adventures. In 1975, the couple moved to establish themselves in Traverse City, Michigan and never looked back. Alan’s life centered around his family. He was a loving husband, dedicated father, and doting grandfather. Alan’s unwavering commitment to his children and grandchildren was evident in everything he did. He cherished every moment with them and made it a priority to be present for their life events, big or small. Alan was the definition of patient and when his children and family asked for his time, it was never too much. Alan cherished the ordinary moments - like sharing a meal together, a ride in the car to the store, sitting around the table talking, or watching a show together, the small moments felt meaningful with him. His children will miss the many surprises that came from a conversation with dad; the quiet wit, stories of breaking in horses and surviving the wilderness for a month, or sometimes even square-dancing tips. Alan was a devoted and lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Throughout his life, he exemplified the teachings of Christ, serving as a humble, faithful disciple and role model to all who knew him. In 1966, Alan served a 32-month mission in Argentina for The Church. Alan was passionate about serving others and, through his actions, encouraged his children to find joy in serving others as well. Alan was a man of few words but offered the precious gift of his time freely to anyone in his company. He has created a legacy with his gentle, servant heart. Professionally and personally, Alan was known for his exceptional skills as a handyman. This skill was demonstrated for nearly twenty-five years as an employee with the Federal Aviation Administration. At home, no house or car project was too challenging for him to tackle. His ability to fix things was matched only by his willingness to help others, always lending a hand whenever needed. His children will miss him sharing his mechanical wisdom for all of their own projects and the bonding experiences this brought. Alan had a passion for music, particularly playing the guitar and singing. He delighted in sharing his musical talents with his family and friends, creating lasting memories through the joy of harmonious sounds. His family will remember him when they listen to classics from James Taylor, John Denver and Alison Krauss. Alan is preceded in death by his siblings: Dan, Kent, and Lary. Alan is survived by his siblings Lyn, Judy, Jill, and Mike; as well as his beloved wife, Pamela; his eight children: David (Lillian), Noel (Jennifer), Megan (Mark) Hammar, Seth (Chelsea), Nathan (Anna), Miles (Austin), Ashlee (Jonathan) Fowler, and Lara (Thomas) Girdwood; his thirty grandchildren; two great- grandchildren: and a large extended family and circle of friends who will miss him dearly. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Traverse City at 12:00 p.m. Here is a zoom link for the day of the service if anyone is not able to attend.
